A fusion of Romanticism and Modern Art influences, these landscapes are conceived in the studio through the working of invented imagery and elements from my surroundings in the Kootenays. They are intended to be both seductive and intimidating. with a sense of separation between the viewer and the work.
This distance provides an element of comfort to the viewer. It is also symbolic of the disconnect from the land that many people experience in this country. We are taught that we must control the environment to survive (through the harvesting of all its resources), yet nature is telling us clearly that our methods are flawed. This series examines the tension that is created by these seemingly opposing forces.
